Greek authorities dismantle major prostitution racket

The Greek police's organized crime and human trafficking unit has dismantled a large-scale operation that exploited migrant women, forcing them to work as prostitutes.

In a coordinated operation in Athens, in the southwest Peloponnese and on the holiday island of Myconos, police arrested 13 suspects, while arrest warrants have been issued for another 12.

Police arrest 17 in brothel crackdown in Athens

A crackdown on seven brothels in the Athens neighborhoods of Kallithea and Nea Smyrni Thursday led to 17 people facing a prosecutor for soliciting, 16 women and one man.

Of the 16 women arrested, 11 are foreign nationals, according to police who confiscated cash, five surveillance cameras and one recording device in the sweep.

Germany Mulls Issuing 'Seal of Approval' for All Brothels

All German brothels could soon be forced to get a "seal of approval" that will identify their consistency with required safety standards, Deutsche Welle wrote.

The system is comparable with the star system for hotels and restaurants and is designed to contribute to the safety of the sex industry, as well as improve the lives of prostitutes, a German sex industry association argues.

Brothel raids lead to 19 arrests

19 women were arrested on Friday following raids conducted by police at 11 brothels in the wider Athens center as part of a crackdown on sex trafficking. 

Three of the women are Greek nationals, while the remaining 16 are foreign nationals. Three other women were also detained in connection with the case.

Eight arrested in illegal brothels raids

Eight people were arrested Monday after a series of police raids on illegal brothels in central Athens.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 55, face charges of violating laws governing prostitution and rules concerning the illegal operation of brothels without proper documentation.

All of the suspects, six of whom are women, appeared before a prosecutor on Monday.
