Bulgarian DefMin Hopes Contract on Repair of MiG-29 Jets to be Ratified by End of Month

Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev expressed hope that parliament will ratify the contract with Poland on the repair of Bulgaria's MiG-29 fighter jets in the next one-two weeks.

Nenchev said in Brussels on Thursday that both Bulgaria and Poland will sign the contract once it is ratified, private bTV station quoted him as saying.

Bulgarian Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev stated in a briefing in parliament on Friday that the contract on the repair of the country's MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland will be ratified in a few days.

Nenchev also forecasted that Bulgaria will receive six of the repaired jets until April next year, daily Dnevnik quotes him as saying.

Bulgaria probably used to pay twice the normal price for the maintenance contracts it had with Russian company RSK MiG to repair fighter jets from its military aircraft fleet, Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev has said.

In an interview with private national NOVA TV channel, Nenchev suggested the money might have been used either for "political purposes" or "hybrid warfare".

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov congratulated on Monday the leader of SYRIZA and former Greek prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, for his party's victory at the early parliamentary elections held on Sunday.

Borisov noted that Bulgaria and Greece are partners with friendly relations and that the cooperation between the two countries has strategic dimensions.

NATO Coordination Center Opening Doors in Sofia

A coordination center set up by NATO as part of its recent eastern redeployment is due to open on Thursday morning in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

President Rosen Plevneliev is to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside James Appathurai, NATO's Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy.

Repair of MiG-29s by Poland to Cost Nearly Half of Price Sought by Russia - DefMin Nenchev

The repair of the MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland will be twice cheaper than the cost, which would have been incurred if the maintenance was carried out by the the Russian MiG company.

Nenchev revealed that a price, which is 20-30% lower than the one requested by the Russian company, was negotiated with Poland.
