Bulgaria Marks the Day of St.George the Victorious and Army Day

On 6th of May, Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Saint George the Victorious.

The public holiday is also known as Gergyovden and is one of the most celebrated name-days in the country.

St. George is the patron saint of shepherds and roasting a whole lamb is part of the tradition on this day.

US Ambassador to Bulgaria Herro Mustafa Met with Defense Minister Karakachanov

Radev: The Expenses on Defense Will Continue to Rise

"National security lies in the foundation of every prosperous state, and it is not only the responsibility of the shooters, but of the entire society."

With these words, Head of State Rumen Radev addressed the students at the Military Academy "G. S. Rakovski ", whose graduation ceremony was honoured by the President today.

Borisov: Nearly BGN 4 billion Will be Spent on Defense This Year

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov attended the ritual of taking a military oath by freshmen at the National Military University "V. Levski" in Veliko Turnovo.
"The government has allocated BGN 16 million to repair your buildings," the prime minister said. In his speech, he stressed that this year nearly BGN 4 billion will be spent on defense.

Bulgarian Defence Ministry Invites Four Companies to Bid to Supply Armoured Vehicles

Bulgaria's Ministry of Defense announced that, on August 5, it had sent formal Requests for Proposals (RFP) to four companies invited to bid to supply armored infantry carriers. These four companies are ARTEC GmbH (Germany), Patria (Finland), Nexter Systems (France) and General Dynamics European Land Systems - MOWAG (Switzerland).
