Bulgarian State Railways Announces 20% Increase in Train Ticket Prices Due to Rising Costs

Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) has declared a significant adjustment in train ticket prices, citing a sharp surge in the company's expenses over recent years. According to the press center of the national railway carrier, the price hike, averaging 20%, is scheduled to take effect from May 7.

Bulgarian Railways Launches Electronic Ticketing System For Trains

Since the beginning of this week, Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ - Passenger Services) EOOD has introduced experimental electronic ticketing on trains by the transportation staff using PDA devices. Currently, the service is being tested only on the Sofia - Vratsa - Vidin and Sofia - Vratsa - Lom routes.

Bulgaria: A moving Train caught Fire

The locomotive of the fast train from Varna to Sofia caught fire in motion at around 11 a.m. today. This was told by passengers traveling in the ill-fated train.

The fire broke out after the departure from Mezdra station to Cherepish. The passengers were the first to notice it and alert the drivers. All passengers, about 50 people, were evacuated and there were no injuries.
