Bulgaria sends army to borders with Turkey to stem refugee ‘tide’

Bulgaria has decided to deploy military personnel to its borders with Turkey in an effort to stem the flow of incoming refugees and migrants into the country. The plan provides for the movement of approximately 1,000 soldiers to the Bulgarian-Turkish border line. The decision was reached following the attempt of 660 refugees to enter Bulgarian territory over the past week alone.

Bulgarian Court Extradites Suspected IS Affiliate to Germany

The court in the Bulgarian city of Haskovo ordered on Tuesday the extradition of a suspected Islamic State (IS) affiliate to Germany.

The 21-year-old Moroccan, who holds a German passport, was detained at the Lesovo border checkpoint on the Bulgarian-Turkish frontier with fake documents on Monday.

Bulgaria Has Readiness to Deal with Increasing Migratory Pressure

The State Agency for Refugees assured that it has readiness to deal with the increasing migratory pressure towards Bulgaria.

This was announced by its chairperson Nikola Kazakov, who said on Tuesday that if the need arises the agency could increase its capacity for accommodation.

Future Bulgarian Ambassador to Turkey to Seek New Basis of Bilateral Relations

The former Foreign Minister and future ambassador to Turkey Nadezhda Neynsky said that she is to seek new basis of bilateral relations and will champion the Bulgarian national interests.

Neynsky did not want to make concrete statements as she was still to hold many conversations before her departure to Turkey, she said in an interview for private bTV station on Friday.

Bulgarian Border Police Records Triple Increase in Illegal Migrant Crossings

Bulgarian Border Police registered a triple increase in the number of illegal migrant crossings of the border with Turkey in the first three months of 2015.

A total of 956 people were detained as they attempted to cross the border illegally, which is almost a triple increase compared to the same period in 2014.

Forest guards discovered the dead body of an immigrant near the Bulgarian-Turkish border in the Malko Tarnovo region, reports the Burgas police.

The body of the unidentified man was found near the river Mladezhka in the Strandzha mountain, not far away from the village of Zvezdets.
