Tobacco Growers to Protest over 'Smear Campaign' against Cigarettes Holding

Bulgarian tobacco growers have vowed to take to the streets unless what they call a "smear campaign" against Bulgartabac, a major tobacco holding group in the country.

Earlier the private company announced it was halting all sales to the Middle East as of April 01, citing an alleged negative media campaign and the "sensitive situation in that region".

Bulgarian MP Delyan Peevski Withdrawing from Bulgartabac

Delyan Peevski, a controversial Bulgarian lawmaker and businessman, said on Friday he was selling his stake in Bulgartabac, a Bulgarian tobacco joint-stock holding company.

Peevski, whose name came to the spotlight after he was appointed to head the national domestic and counter-intelligence agency DANS in 2013, triggering nationwide protests, had a majority stake in Bulgartabac.

Cigarettes smuggled from Georgia, Northern Iraq, Bulgaria

Smuggled cigarettes arrive in Turkey from Georgia, northern Iraq and Bulgaria, while there are large sums of money being transferred from the eastern parts of Turkey to Istanbul in line with smuggling activities, according to recent data from Turkey's financial crime investigation board (MASAK), daily Milliyet has reported.

Part of Bulgartabac Holding Sold, Again

Bulgaria's largest tobacco company, Bulgartabac Holding, has been sold again, reports Capital Daily. 

According to the publication, the Austrian commercial registry shows that on June 26, the majority share package is evenly split between two offshore companies. Livero Establishment transferred  half of BT Invest to Woodford Establishment.

Corporate Commercial Bank Becomes Third Largest Owner of Bulgartabac

The Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB) is the third largest stake holder in Bulgaria's largest tobacco company, Bulgartabac Holding.

According to the report of the Capital Daily business daily, it has purchased 3.22% of Bulgartabac's stakes and the total ownership of the bank became 6.02%. 

Bulgaria's Bulgartabac Has A New Owner

Bulgaria's major tobacco company Bulgartabac has a new owner, shows the Austrian commercial register. 

Livero Establishment, registered in Lichtenstein, is the new owner of BT Invest – the Austrian company, which privatized the holding in 2011. 

It got a little less than 80% of Bulgartabac for EUR 100.1 M.

For now the BT Invest management remains the same.
