Turkey jumps second spot in 2022 World Cup qualifiers with Gibraltar win

Turkey thrashed Gibraltar 6-0 on Nov. 13 to take the second spot on goal difference in 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The home side took control from kick-off, Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored an impressive solo goal in the 11th minute, giving Turkey a 1-0 lead at Başakşehir Fatih Terim stadium in Turkish metropolis Istanbul.

Turkey seal late 2-1 win over Latvia, keep their World Cup dreams alive

Turkey kept their 2022 World Cup finals hopes alive after securing a dramatic 2-1 win over Latvia in qualifiers on Oct. 11. 

The first half ended goalless at Daugava Stadium in the capital Riga.

Latvia took the lead thanks to Merih Demiral's own goal in the 70th minute.

Beşiktaş sign forward Kenan Karaman on free transfer

Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş signed forward Kenan Karaman on July 15 on a free transfer from Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Defending champions Beşiktaş announced their new arrival with a special video on Twitter.

The 27-year-old German-born Turkish player has played for three German clubs: Hoffenheim, Hannover 96 and Fortuna Dusseldorf, scoring 73 goals.

Burak Yılmaz nets hat trick as Turkey beats Netherlands

Veteran striker Burak Yılmaz scored a hat trick as Turkey stunned the Netherlands 4-2 on March 24 in the opening game of European World Cup qualifying.

Yılmaz, the 35-year-old Lille forward, struck twice before the break and again late in the second half to secure the win in the Group G opener just as the Netherlands was threatening a comeback.

Galatasaray wins to climb up in league standings

Defending Turkish Süper Lig champion Galatasaray has moved a step closer to the top spot in the standings with a 3-0 win over city neighbor Kasımpaşa in a Week 21 game.

Adem Büyük scored a double for the visiting side in the 22nd and 41st minutes in the game on Feb. 9.

Having won its fifth league game in a row, Galatasaray climbed up to the fifth spot with 39 points.
