Targeted inspections of 1,621 school buses by traffic police Wednesday revealed a wide array of safety violations, including two cases of drivers not having the required driving license, three without a certificate of professional competence, and one vehicle with worn tires.

With summer break nearing its end and students preparing to return to school, parents are facing nail-biting concerns over bus fares, as some companies and institutions are raising costs by over 100 percent, disregarding the 16 percent official hike set by Istanbul Municipality's Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME).

Thirty new buses have hit the streets in Athens for use in public transport, with another 170 of the new technology vehicles expected to go into service soon.

A bus driver went viral as he took his intention to keep his bus clean to “another level”. As seen in a video taken in Elafonisi, in Crete, by a tourist, the driver in question is “dusting off” one by one the passengers about to sit in the vehicle.

A new tourist bus line, numbered 200, will start operating in Sofia on August 3, as announced by the Sofia Municipality. The line will feature double-decker buses and run on weekends until September 15, aiming to improve access to tourist sites in Sofia, according to the Council of Ministers.

With the 250 new electric buses already on the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki, procedures for a new tender regarding another 700 new electric buses and trolleybuses in Athens and Thessaloniki are under way.

Public consultation has begun and the tender is planned to go live in October.

The constant increase in tourist traffic also creates the need for new infrastructure, to avoid making life in the city unlivable.

When 200 to 300 tourist buses circulate in Athens for months, every day, every year, authorities must figure out where they will park so that central avenues do not turn into makeshift parking lots.
