Greek land register crawling along
New land registry offices in the inner Athens suburb of Galatsi have boosted a slow-moving process to establish a Greek cadastre but still only a fraction of properties have been declared.
According to the latest official data, just 7 percent of all property rights have been declared so far - some 700,000 declarations - with 13 percent of all declarations submitted online.

Property ownership declarations to resume
The collection of property ownership declarations will resume on November 19, starting with the southeastern Aegean islands of Karpathos and Kalymnos, the National Cadastre & Mapping Agency (Hellenic Cadastre) announced on Thursday.

For several months now, work has been done to make sure "the issue would no longer be such a cancerous problem for our citizens and the economy," Brnabic said, according to the government.
Land registry extension given so state can challenge trespassers
An amendment tabled by the Environment Ministry last week seeks a three-month extension to the deadline by which the state can take action against anyone it considers to be encroaching on its land, as part of efforts to complete Greece's land register.
Cadaster to absorb land register offices
The Environment Ministry included a clause in the multi-bill tabled in Parliament on Tuesday for the creation of a new public entity named "Hellenic Cadaster" (instead of the original proposal, "National Cadaster Corporation") at a time when construction activity in Greece mostly comprises fencing around plots rather than any actual building.

Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia will Exchange Cartographic and Geodetic Data
The Republic of Bulgaria and Republic of Macedonia will exchange cartographic, geodetic data and cadastral materials. This includes the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Bulgarian Agency for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre and the Real Estate Cadastre Agency of the Republic of Macedonia, which was signed today between the two agencies, reports novini.
Unregistered properties to be confiscated
The state is set to become the legal owner of properties in 111 areas around the country (including 20 in Athens and Thessaloniki) whose real owners have not declared their assets to the land registry offices (Ktimatologio) that are about to complete 14 years of operation, according to the head of the property owners federation (POMIDA).

Land register to offer chance for more hirings
Greece may still not have a proper land register, but it is about to obtain a new and oversized public corporation to fulfill that role: the Hellenic Cadaster (OEKT), a body designed to replace the existing National Cadaster and Mapping Agency SA (EKXA, or simply Ktimatologio).
