Scottish shop's sweets head to Oscars
In a storyline improbable enough for Hollywood, a vegan chocolatier in a remote Scottish port town has made the confectionery to be given to silver screen icons at next month's Oscars.
Fiona McArthur's luxury chocolates will be handed out to Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and other VIPs at cinema's biggest annual night, with each nominee in the main categories to be treated to a box.

Americans spent over $20 billion on chocolate in 2022, but that pales in comparison to how much of this plant they consumed
US candy inflation hits double digits
For the second year in a row, U.S. shoppers are seeing double-digit inflation in the candy aisle.
Candy and gum prices are up an average of 13 percent this month compared to last October, more than double the 6 percent increase in all grocery prices, according to Datasembly, a retail price tracker.
That's on top of a 14 percent increase in candy and gum prices in October 2022.

People throng Eminönü stores for Ramadan feast shopping
With only a few days left until Eid al-Fitr, people have started thronging the shops in Istanbul's Eminönü district, famous for traditional Turkish delight and Ottomon-inspired sweets, to do holiday shopping.
As preparations for Ramadan are ongoing, in Eminönü, flamboyant candies, chocolates and Turkish delights have taken their place on the counters.
Ministry recalls Kinder products
Agriculture and Forestry Ministry has announced that some Kinder products manufactured in Belgium will be recalled due to salmonella risks.
The ministry said on April 21 that Schoko Bons, a chocolate product of the Kinder brand, will be partially recalled, after reports of a salmonella outbreak in Kinder Surprise eggs produced in Europe.

Bulgarian authorities to withdraw Chocolate Eggs because of suspected Salmonella
Chocolate eggs and candies will be withdrawn from the market, after today. The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency was notified through the Warning and Cooperation Network that batches of Kinder eggs and candies are subject to withdrawal due to possible salmonella contamination.

Chinese white goods producer invests 85 mln euros in Turkey’s Eskişehir
China-based home appliances producer Haier has established a factory in the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, Haier Europe CEO Yannick Fierling said in a press meeting on Oct. 24.
The total of the investment will rise from its initial level of 40 million euros to 85 million euros next year to create 1,600 jobs., the company executives said.
