Carbon neutrality

India's economy will become carbon neutral by the year 2070, the country's prime minister announced on Nov. 1 at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.

"By 2070, India will achieve the target of net-zero emissions," Narendra Modi told more than 120 leaders at the critical talks.

Glasgow – Prime Minister Janez Janša highlighted the need to create a realistic path to implement the goals from the Paris climate agreement as he addressed the World Leaders Summit, a high-level political event held in Glasgow as part of the ongoing COP26 climate conference.

The EU must use nuclear energy to ensure its energy independence, only alternative sources will not be enough. This was announced on Tuesday in Luxembourg by the Slovenian Minister of Infrastructure Ernej Vartovec, who is chairing an extraordinary meeting of the EU Council at the level of energy ministers, convened to discuss the energy crisis, TASS reports.

Top crude exporter Saudi Arabia will aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2060, its de facto ruler said on Oct. 23, days before the COP26 global climate summit.

The kingdom, one of the world's biggest polluters, said it would also join a global effort to cut methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

A report prepared by a commission in Turkey's parliament after the ratification of the Paris Climate Agreement reveals a series of determinations and recommendations that Ankara and the Turkish people should follow in a challenging "transformation process."

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed on Oct. 7 Turkey's ratification of the 2015 Paris climate accord, saying Ankara should rapidly present its national plan to combat climate change. 

"I expect Turkey to present as soon as possible a national #ClimateAction plan in line with its commitment to get to net zero emissions by 2053," Guterres said on Twitter.

Ljubljana – Slovenia can achieve climate neutrality by the middle of the 21st century if it makes cutting greenhouse gas emissions and transition to climate neutrality a top priority and if it immediately enhances implementation of climate measures, says the Climate Mirror 2021 report.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, under pressure to adopt a 2050 net-zero carbon emissions target, said in an interview published on Sept. 27 that he may not join this year's landmark U.N. climate summit in Glasgow.

Turkey, which announced the presentation of the Paris Climate Deal to parliament next month, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 21 percent as of 2030 by implementing an action plan with nine major points.

"The country prepared an action plan consisting of some 32 targets and some 81 acts collected under nine major points," daily Milliyet reported on Sept. 23.

With the aim of transforming its productive activities and the large-scale production of green fuels, low carbon footprint, the Hellenic Petroleum Group is updating its strategic plan and is examining the investment projects it will implement.
