Shell ordered to cut emissions in landmark Dutch climate case

A Dutch court ordered oil giant Shell on May 26 to slash its greenhouse gas emissions in a landmark victory for climate activists with implications for energy firms worldwide.

Shell must reduce its carbon emissions by 45 percent by 2030 as it is contributing to the "dire" effects of climate change, the district court in The Hague ruled.

European Parliament, Member States Set Higher Goal for Carbon Emissions Cut – 55 Percent by 2030

The European Parliament and EU member states have agreed a target to cut carbon emissions by "at least" 55 percent by 2030, the EU Commission said in a statement released early Wednesday.

The agreement comes after intense negotiations between parliament, who wanted at least 60 percent reduction, and leaders of the member states, who agreed 55 percent in November.

Slovenia pledges commitment to climate goals in EU-Brazil event

Ljubljana – Foreign Ministry State Secretary Stanislav Raščan pledged Slovenia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the EU’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, as he took part in a virtual EU-Brazil event on climate change, biodiversity and sustainable development on Wednesday.

TÜV Nord certification for Corinth Pipeworks

Corinth Pipeworks, a member of Cenergy Holdings, is the first steel pipe producer to be certified as a Carbon-Neutral Company for its production activities in 2019 by TÜV Nord, it said last week.

It has ensured that 100% of electrical energy needs for 2019 originated from renewable energy sources, totally eliminating indirect emissions, it noted.
