A huge fire, which reduced to ash a total of 61 buildings and 250 hectares of forest in the western province of Muğla, was brought under control on Sept. 7

The fire broke out at noon of Sept. 6 in a forested area and spread to the Zeytinköy neighborhood in the Menteşe district of Muğla.

Eight hectares of forest land have been damaged in a fire that broke out in the Menteşe district of the Aegean province of Muğla on Sept. 1, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The century-old lily-white houses of Bodrum, a popular resort town in the western province of Muğla, are known for their wooden doors, blue windows and bougainvilleas.

It is popularly believed that the white paint of the houses, which give Bodrum such a distinctive look, keeps away insects while the blue windows combat the "evil eye."

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Aegean resort of Bodrum on Aug. 13, just five days after a 5.1 tremor hit the area following another major quake last month, Hurriyet Daily News  reported. 

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake occurred at a depth of around 21.79 kilometers at 2.16 p.m.

Findings unearthed at the ancient city of Stratonikeia in the southwestern province of Muğla, as well as  the structures to be restored there, are being revived through special drawings made by an excavation painter.
 

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has inscribed the "Aphrodisias Archaeological Site" on the UNESCO World Heritage List upon Turkey's nomination, the Foreign Ministry said in a written statement on July 10.
