Extension given to businesses for cash register-integrated POS terminals

Greece's Finance Ministry and tax authority AADE on Thursday announced an extension of 1+1 months for businesses to integrate their POS terminals with cash registers, so that it can be completed without technical problems.

The decision was taken following the demands of POS and cash register suppliers, as well as the businesses, to accommodate the demands of a complex effort.

POS situation needs extension

The Finance Ministry and the tax administration (AADE) are focusing on the extension of the deadline for the interconnection of cash registers with card terminals (POS), with the aim that upon full operation of the new process of issuing receipts - for payment by cards - everything will work perfectly without technical problems.

Stricter penalties for non-use of POS

The Economy and Finance Ministry on Thursday submitted a provision to parliament which aims to increase fines and impose sanctions against business that have yet to install POS terminals linked to cash registers.

The plan also foresees fines for providers of POS terminals and cash registries who do not comply with the law.

Suspicious delays in interfacing of cash registers with POS

There is strong dissatisfaction in the Finance Ministry about the speed with which IT companies - even multinational giants - are upgrading their software, so that it will be possible by February 29 to interface 400,000 cash registers with an equal number of POS.

According to ministry officials, there are suspicions that some companies are deliberately delaying the interconnection.

The only alternative

Those who object to the introduction of the presumptive income for the taxation of the self-employed and freelancers should logically be in favor of electronic means of payment, which record the real, and not the assumed income.

There is no legitimate reason to delay the connection of POS machines with cash registers and with the independent tax authority's system.
