Food stores to open on Orthodox Palm Sunday
Food stores in Greece will open on Orthodox Palm Sunday (April 12) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to facilitate customers who want to buy their supplies for Easter, following a decision by Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis.

No church at Easter for worshippers

Churches only open to priests on Easter, not the public, says spokesman
The Church of Greece clarified on Thursday that churches will only be open for clerics and few of their staff during the Orthodox Holy Week, in line with government decisions to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, and called on the faithful to pray at home.
Government to allow closed-door services on Orthodox Holy Week
The government adopted on Monday a request by the Greek Orthodox Church to allow Easter services to be held behind closed doors without a congregation as of Palm Sunday on April 12.
The measure will be in place for one week, until April 20, which is the Orthodox Easter Monday.

Greece may shut down tolls to prevent city dwellers from traveling to their villages for Easter as the country fights to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, government spokesman Stelios Petsas has said.
"We'll see if we need to shut down the tolls… For the time being, we are reiterating the key prohibitions," Petsas told Skai radio on Friday.

Church ban expanded; closed-door services likely
The government has extended measures banning all services at churches and other places of worship from March 30 to April 11. The new date is just a week ahead of Greek Orthodox Easter, the biggest event on the country's religious calendar.

Ukrainian Metropolitan to lead liturgy in Podgorica
