So far 65% of the population has been registered in national census.

 According to National Statistics data, at 6 o'clock in the morning 2.290 million were electronically counted, and together with those counted by e personal data collectors a total of over 4.5 million, which is about 65%.

The State Statistical Office has said it is optimistic about successfully wrapping up the nationwide head count, the first since 2002, by the September 30 deadline, having so far registered more than 1.3 million residents in more than 405,000 households.

More than one million citizens have been counted in the Republic of North Macedonia by 3 pm on September 19, the State Statistical Institute reported, MIA news agency reported.

On September 7, the national census in Bulgaria begins, which is done every 10 years.

In the first stage, households will be able to fill in the questionnaire online. It takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on whether it's one person or several people in the household, Sergei Tsvetarski, chairman of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), told "This Morning".

The population and housing census, which is due to begin on January 22, 2021, is likely to be delayed due to the spread of the coronavirus.

 Postponement is proposed by two GERB MPs, who have submitted a draft of new law.

The government has approved the draft of a population and housing census act for 2021, reported the Bulgarian National Television. The reference date to which the data collected during the counting will relate is January 22, 2021.

Ivan Balev, head of the Demographic and Social Statistics unit of Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute (NSI), has insisted that the 2011 census was deeply flawed.

Balev, as cited by Darik radio, claimed that the shortcomings of the 2011 census were due to mistakes of census workers and statisticians.
