Soccer fans vandalize buses in Thessaloniki

Suspected supporters of PAOK soccer club vandalized four public buses on Sunday evening in Thessaloniki, northern Greece.

The incident occurred on Line 14, which was transporting fans to the Toumba Stadium for the match against AEK Athens.

Police are currently investigating to identify the perpetrators responsible for the damage.

Tzitzikostas elected President of the European Committee of the Regions

Governor of Central Macedonia region Aspostolos Tzitzikostas has been elected President of the European Committee of the Regions.
Tzitzikostas, who is the first Greek to assume the post, replaces Belgium's Karl-Heinz Lambertz. His candidacy had been backed by all political groups in the committee.
Vasco Cordeiro, regional governor of the Azores, was elected vice president.

Protesting farmers in northern Greece warn of further action

Farmers in northern Greece said on Tuesday they will escalate their protests and invited the ministers of agricultural development and growth and labor to a meeting to discuss their concerns.

Roadblocks have been set up on highways in the prefectures of Imathia, Pella, Pieria and Serres and that connecting Katerini and Thessaloniki.

Swiss hiker stranded on Mount Athos located by rescue crews

Greek rescue crews searching for a Swiss tourist who was stranded on Mount Athos, northern Greece, on Tuesday was located in an area between the monasteries of Simonos Petras and Dionysiou on Wednesday morning.

The 67-year-old man called the European emergency number on Tuesday to say he had been injured and lost his orientation while hiking.
