Dead whale found floating off Piraeus

The body of a whale was found floating more than two nautical miles off the coast of Piraeus on Wednesday afternoon, the local port authority said.

The authority notified the competent service of the Municipality of Piraeus which towed the body to the beach of Freattida, a district in the southeastern part of Piraeus.

The carcass was then transported to a landfill for burial.

Nearly 11 million lira worth of whale vomit seized in Turkey’s south

Security forces in the Mediterranean province of Mersin have seized 145 kilograms of whale vomit with a market value of 11 million Turkish Liras ($1.6 million).

Toroslar district police department teams took action upon notice that there was a whale vomit substance used in perfume production at a facility in the Çilek neighborhood.

The Humpback Whale in the Thames River Was Found Dead

The humpback whale, seen in the River Thames, was found dead east of London between Crayford Ness and the Queen Elizabeth II bridge, Dartford and will be autopsied, Reuters reported.

The 10m long whale was found dead in the shallows in Greenhithe, Kent, yesterday and was transported to London during the night.

The London Zoo will investigate the cause of the whale's death.
