Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate conducts mass with 140 bishops from around world
Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate Bartholomew has performed a mass marking the beginning of the church's calendar with the participation of some 140 metropolitan bishops and archbishops from around the world.
Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate to meet archbishops
Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate will organize a meeting in Istanbul between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2 in order to discuss issues affecting the church and current global issues.
Around 140 metropolitan bishops and archbishops from around the world are expected to attend the meeting, the patriarchate said in a written statement on Aug. 27.
Fener Greek Patriarch's saplings in ?zmir attract tourists
The olive and myrtle tree saplings planted by Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew and ?zmir Mayor Aziz Kocao?lu have become tourist attractions.
Bartholomew and Kocao?lu planted the trees at the garden of the Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Voukolos in ?zmir on Feb. 6.

Greek church offers up property to help Athens raise funds for debt

The head of Greece's Orthodox Church said on Saturday it was willing to put property it owns up for development to help raise money to repay the country's debt.
The Orthodox Church is a powerful institution in Greece and owns more land than anyone except the state, including prime real estate in Athens.
Atheists fan the Flame of Jerusalem Patriarchate
The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem issued assurances on Monday that the Holy Light would travel to Greece this year regardless of a call by a group of local atheists' for the flight not to be paid for by the Greek government. The Greek Union of Atheists protested against the annual air transport costs to bring the flame to Greece in a spirit of pomp and pageantry.

Bulgarian Orthodox Church Proposes Development of Pilgrimage Tourism
The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has proposed a better promotion of the country's sacred sites to tourists and their inclusion in pilgrimage routes.
These issues were raised during the meeting of representatives of the Holy Synod, including Bulgaria's Patriarch Neofit, and Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova, daily Dnevnik reports.
