The charge d'affaires of Denmark's Ankara embassy on Aug. 22 was once again summoned to the Foreign Ministry by Turkish officials in response to the persistent acts of Quran burning near the Turkish embassy in Copenhagen.

US President Joe Biden has nominated Kenneth Merten as new US ambassador to Bulgaria. This is stated in a statement by the White House.

Merten (b. 1961) is a career diplomat. Until recently, he was a Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Haiti. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Talent Management.

Diplomatic missions of 12 states have suspended work in North Korea and all foreign personnel of international humanitarian organizations have left the country due to the challenging situation, namely over the lack of goods and medicine, the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang wrote on its Facebook page.

Kate Marie Byrnes has been nominated by US President Donald Trump as the next ambassador to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).

Byrnes, a 24-year veteran of the US diplomatic corps and a member of the Senior Foreign Service, currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Athens.

The Netherlands and Turkey have appointed ambassadors in a bid to "normalize bilateral relations," as the two countries' ambassador seats have been vacant after almost a year of tension and relations have been conducted via charges d'affaires. 

Israel's Foreign Ministry summoned Turkey's temporary charge d'affaires in Tel Aviv, Umut Deniz, on May 16.
