Some $3 bln invested in gold in Türkiye in first quarter
An unprecedented 58 billion Turkish Liras ($3bn) was invested in gold in the first quarter of 2023 in Türkiye, according to the World Gold Council (WGC).
Bar and coin investment in Türkiye reached phenomenal levels in the first quarter, breaching 50 tons for the first time on record, said the council's latest edition of the Gold Demand Trends report.
Today is World Water Day
On Water Day, children from the Bulgarian town of Omurtag will meet with representatives of the authorities, including the Minister of Regional Development, Ivan Shishkov. The problem in the town has been going on for decades. People there have repeatedly come out in protest demanding a solution to the problem.

Australia mining company sorry for losing radioactive device
A mining corporation on Sunday apologized for losing a highly radioactive capsule over a 1,400-kilometer stretch of Western Australia, as authorities combed parts of the road looking for the tiny but dangerous substance.
The capsule was part of a device believed to have fallen off a truck while being transported between a desert mine site and the city of Perth on Jan. 10.
Rare earth materials ‘new battlefield’
Türkiye's recent discovery of rare earth elements will give a major advantage to the country in the near future, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.
"As the name suggests, these elements are rarely found around the world," Dönmez said on Jan. 28 at an event titled "Energy Goals in Century of Türkiye" in Istanbul.
