Sadiq Khan to Ban Junk Food Advertising on London Transport to Tackle Child Obesity

Independent - Junk food advertising will be banned from London's tube and bus network, under plans put forward by the city's mayor that steal a march on Theresa May.

Sadiq Khan said the move was necessary to curb the "ticking timebomb" of child obesity, which has left almost 40 per cent of 10 and 11-year-olds in the capital overweight or obese.

Obesity on the rise among Greek children

The most recent scientific data on global obesity rates have proved disappointing, as the World Obesity Federation has warned that if current trends continue, 2.7 billion adults will be overweight or obese by 2025. Moreover, 268 million children of school age (5-18) will be overweight, with an additional 91 million considered obese.

Greek boys the fattest in Europe, according to study

Greece has the highest proportion of obese boys in Europe (16.7% of the population), while Malta has the most obese girls (11.3%), according to a new international study published in the medical journal “The Lancet” , on occasion of World Obesity Day on 11 October.
Moldova has the smallest obesity rates in Europe (3.2% of the population) and 5% in boys .

About 480,000 Greek children will be obese or overweight by 2025

Obesity rates in Greece and around the world are rising and scientists estimate that by 2025, 480,000 Greek school-age children will be obese or overweight.

The Hellenic Association for the Study of Obesity, Metabolism and Eating Disorders (EPAMEDI) warns Greek society to “Treat obesity today to avoid the consequences later”, in a message just ahead of World Obesity Day (11/10).

Nearly one in five people obese in Turkey: Survey

Nearly one in five people in Turkey is obese, according to the results of a 2016 health survey released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on May 31. 

The survey showed that 19.6 percent of Turkish citizens aged 15 years and older have a body mass index of 30 or over. The rate was 19.9 percent in 2014.
