At least 875 children die in preventable incidents in Turkey: Report

At least 875 children from across Turkey were killed in preventable incidents over the past year, a Turkish children's rights organization has announced in its annual "Child's Right to Life" report, calling on authorities to adopt holistic and rights-based policies on children's rights.

Nearly 100,000 unaccompanied child refugees applied for asylum in 2015

Over 95,000 unaccompanied minors have applied for asylum in Europe in 2015, a four-fold rise compared to 2014, according to the British Bureau of Investigative Journalism. Sweden recorded the highest number of unaccompanied child asylum applications with 35,369, followed by Germany (14,439), Austria (9,331) and Hungary (8,804).

Beijing extends leave for new parents as China hopes for more children

Authorities in China's capital will extend leave from work for new mothers and fathers, state media reported on March 25, in what appeared to be the latest incentive to encourage families to have more children.

Swedish “angel” murdered by asylum seeker at refugee center for minors

Swedish media is outraged by the murder of Alexander Mezher at a refugee shelter for unaccompanied children in Sweden. The young woman, aged 22, was a staff member of the shelter and was described by Swedish daily Expressen as an “angel” and a person who was there only because she wanted to do good. “We have cried a lot. She was such a nice person, warm and happy,” they said.
