4-year old Syrian girl drowns off coast of Turkey

According to Turkish news agency Anadolu, a 4-year old Syrian girl was found dead off the coast of western Turkey near the area of Cesme, opposite the Greek island of Chios. Turkish coast guards managed to rescue 14 Syrian refugees, 8 of which were children, when the boat they were in sank in the Aegean as they were attempting to enter Greece.

Greek Coast Guard under pressure

Greek Coast Guard is being stretched to its limits with at least 1,728 illegal immigrants being rescued by over the past 3 days around the eastern Aegean islands of Samothrace, Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Agathonisi, Kos and Megisti. The ‘irregular’ immigrants were collected in 66 coast guard operations that took place between Friday- August 14 and Monday-August 17.

The Greek Coast Guard allegedly popped an inflatable migrant boat en route to a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, according to claims by a group of Turkish fishermen, who shot video footage of the incident.

A Turkish fisherman said he saw officials from a Greek Coast Guard boat popping an inflatable boat carrying around 50 Syrian migrants off the Aegean province of ?zmir.

Four Turkish F-16s violate Greek air space over Aegean

Four Turkish F-16s entered Greek air space over the Aegean without permission on Wednesday, according to Greek military officials.

The National Defense General Staff (GEETHA) said that the Turkish fighter jets entered Greece air space north of Chios at 2.41 p.m. and exited at 3.09 p.m. south of Samos.

Greek coast guard says 1,161 migrants, refugees rescued from sea

Greece's coast guard says it rescued more than 1,000 migrants from the eastern Aegean Sea between Friday morning and Monday morning.

The coast guard said it had rescued 1,161 people in 37 search-and-rescue operations off the islands of Samothraki, Lesbos, Chios, Samos, Agathonisi and Farmakonisi.

Mastic products now in Dubai

Mastic, or masticha (Pistacia lentiscus), the “gold of Chios”, the eastern Aegean island, has found a new home in high-flying Dubai.

Local entrepreneur Mansoor Al Bastaki is the owner of a Mastihashop outlet and cafe in the UAE emirate, which since February offers a range of skincare products and confectionery featuring the iconic ingredient.
