Greek forces are on high alert to prevent a repeat of the standoff on the Evros border earlier this year when Turkey opened the doors for migrants to travel to the European Union, Kathimerini understands.
Athens bracing over reports of migrant surge
The Hellenic Coast Guard has increased the number of patrols along Greece's eastern sea border amid reports that refugees and migrants are moving en masse by bus from inland camps in Turkey to the coast opposite the Greek islands of Chios, Lesvos and Kos, stoking fears of a repeat of what happened in February at the Evros land border and in the eastern Aegean.

New Turkish overflights over Eastern Aegean
Five overflights over Greek airspace by Turkish military aircraft occurred in the space of 16 minutes Sunday morning, according to the National Defense General Staff.
The planes flew over the Eastern Aegean islands of Chios, Lesvos and two smaller islands between 10:14 and 10:30 am local.

Greek authorities have found out that numerous migrants in Turkey have been concentrating in the country's western seaside towns, as if ready to cross into neighboring Greece's islands in the Aegean Sea.
Chios man remanded after shooting, injuring Syrian teens
A 48-year-old man on the eastern Aegean island of Chios who shot and injured two 16-year-old Syrians last Wednesday was remanded in custody on Monday.
The man opened fire with his hunting rifle on the two teenagers when they entered his greenhouse.
The suspect had been accused in the past of threatening migrants from a neighboring camp.
Coast guard on alert over Turkish tanker's moves
Greece's coast guard followed closely a Turkish tanker, suspected of carrying migrants, Friday, before it returned to a Turkish port.
The tanker was spotted at 8.30 am local on Friday between the islands of Chios and Samos, moving between Turkish and international waters.

Turkish jets violate Greek air space in the Aegean again
A pair of Turkish fighter jets on Monday violated Greek air space in the Aegean for the second time in as many hours on Monday, flying over the island of Chios, in the eastern Aegean, at 3,700 feet, the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA) said.
