Church officials to meet with political party leaders
The Association of Greek Clerics said on Wednesday it will soon hold meetings with leaders of parties in Parliament ahead of the constitutional review in October which will seek a separation of Church and state.
Among the issues of concern for clerics is the possibility that some 9,000 of them will be removed from the state's payroll.
Church in Athens denies 'fake' weddings report
The Church of Ilion, Acharnon and Petroupoli has denied reports that bogus priests conducted dozens of fake weddings on its premises, saying that the alleged ceremonies occurred before the church's foundation in 2010.

The monks of Mount Athos in northern Greece have urged the left-led government to withdraw draft legislation that would allow free determination of gender identity irrespective of how it was recorded at birth.
Church paid 2 mln in taxes last year
The Church of Greece paid just over 2 million euros in taxes for 2016, it emerged on Wednesday following a session of the Holy Synod chaired by Archbishop Ieronymos.
The synod examined the Church's budget and determined that 2.1 million euros was paid for income tax and the unified property tax, known by its acronym ENFIA. Last year the Church paid 3.5 million euros for 2015.

School religion lessons to stay compulsory
Religious affairs lessons in Greek schools are to remain compulsory, the Church of Greece and the government have agreed, despite a proposal by the country's education policy institute, known by its acronym IEP, that those lessons be optional.
