Cigarettes more expensive
Ljubljana – Slovenian tobacco prices rose today under the changes to excise taxes the government confirmed in September. A pack of 20 cigarettes is now 10 cents, or around 2.5%, more expensive. The excise duty on cigarettes rose from EUR 120 to EUR 123 per 1,000 cigarettes, while excise duties on other tobacco products also increased.

Bulgaria: Customs Officers Found over 500,000 Pieces of Contraband Cigarettes
Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint found more than 500,000 pieces of contraband cigarettes in wooden panels in a truck with Turkish registration, the Customs Agency announced. The disclosure took place on September 27 at around 8:50 p.m.

Around 31 percent of Turkish population still smokes despite decade-long campaigns
Around 17 million people among Turkey's population of 83 million still smoke despite years-long efforts to discourage people from smoking, an expert said on National No-Smoking Day on Feb. 9.
But Murat Ağırtaş, the provincial health director of the Central Anatolian province of Kırıkkale, said Turkey dropped in the ranking of a list of heavy-smoker countries.
Most Istanbul fires in 2020 resulted from cigarette butts, data reveals
One of the main causes of more than 19,000 fires that occurred in the first 11 months of 2020 in Istanbul were cigarette butts, according to data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Istanbul's Fire Department extinguished 19,087 fires in this period, and cigarette butts were the cause of 7,595 of them, the state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
