Police in Istanbul seized over 1,600 e-cigarettes and more than 10,000 of their spare parts, a security source said.

Electronic cigarettes in Turkey will be banned completely, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has said.

The Turkish government intends to ban the sale and import of e-cigarettes, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced, BTA reported.

The matter will be discussed in Parliament.

A second US state has banned flavoured e-cigarettes.

New York complied with data linking the deaths of several people with the use of a product advertised as safer than smoking.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said an emergency law would be used to ban flavoured e-cigarettes.

In an effort to reduce the amount of litter in the streets, the municipality of Athens adopted the interactive "Gopa project" which urges smokers to vote on a number of topics by throwing their cigarette butts in containers installed around the city.

The first e-cigarette death case in Los Angeles has been registered. This is the fourth such fatal incident in the United States in two weeks, BNT reported.

The local health department issued warnings to all consumers of such products. It is not yet known what is the exact cause of the lung injury of the deceased.

The first police raid on a university campus since the abolition of the asylum law last month took place on the premises of the Athens University of Economics and Business early on Friday. 

Officers arrested foreign nationals believed to have been plying their wares on and around the university grounds.

Three suspects were arrested in the campus of Athens University in possession of 2,457 packets of contraband cigarettes, police said.
The suspects, all foreign nationals, face charges of violating Greek customs law.

The discovery on Thursday by police of new warehouses containing raw materials for the production of contraband cigarettes in Ritsona, central Greece, and Aspropyrgos, southwest Attica, dealt another blow to a major tobacco smuggling racket in the country, according to authorities.

The Romanian Ministry of Finance has today published a draft decree providing for an increase in excise duty on cigarettes, the introduction of a tax on non-alcoholic beverages containing sugar and other fiscal measures, according to BTA.
