French Interior Ministry calls on citizens to vote in presidential election with Saltbae image

France's Interior Ministry has called on citizens to cast their votes in the presidential election through the iconic image of social media phenomenon Nusret Gökçe, the co-partner of Turkey's global Nusr-et chain of grill houses best known as "Saltbae" who has gained global fame for his meat-cutting and salt-drizzling skills.

'Yellow Heat,' 'Clair Obscur' lead pack at Istanbul Film Festival awards

Fikret Reyhan's "Yellow Heat" was the big winner at the awards for the 36th Istanbul Film Festival, picking up four Golden Tulips, including one for best film.

"Yellow Heat" was closely followed by Yeşim Ustaoğlu's "Clair Obscur," which one three awards, including one for best director to the veteran filmmaker Ustaoğlu.

Meetings on the Bridge Award winners announced

The 12th edition of the Meetings on the Bridge, organized within the scope of the 36th Istanbul Film Festival, was held between April 7 and 11 with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency.

The projects and films that received the Meetings on the Bridge awards were announced at a reception hosted by l'Institut Français Istanbul on April 11. 

Istanbul Film Festival kicks off

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the Istanbul Film Festival's 36th edition kicked off with an opening gala on April 4. The opening gala brought the stars and distinguished figures of Turkish cinema together at TİM Show Center where Cinema Honorary Awards and plaques were presented. 

Veteran Turkish actor Halit Akçatepe laid to rest

Veteran cinema and theater actor Halit Akçatepe, who died on March 31 at the age of 79, was laid to rest Istanbul on April. 2.

A ceremony was held for Akçatepe at the Caddebostan Culture Center, attended by his first and second wives, daughters and granddaughters, as well as many friends and fans. 

A short film on Akçatepe's life was shown at the start of the ceremony. 

Turkish films in Boston

The 16th Boston Turkish Films Festival will be organized this year between March 16 and April 2. 

This year's program continues the tradition of highlighting emerging and established Turkish filmmakers with several appearances by guest directors. Most of the films make their North America or U.S. premieres at the festival. 

Museum sheds light on Turkish cinema, theater history

The Türker İnanoğlu Foundation (TÜRVAK) Cinema-Theater Museum, established in 2000 with the 60-year accumulation of veteran director Türker İnanoğlu, sheds light on over 100 years of Turkish cinema and theater. 

The activity coordinator of the museum in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district, İlke Yılmaz, said the museum in the Erler Film building was Turkey's one and only cinema museum.
