Climate emergency declaration

Seven people were arrested outside the London headquarters of Barclays bank on Wednesday after climate change activists broke windows to protest the role of the financial sector in climate change, news wires reported. "You may dislike our action today but I ask you to compare a crack in a window to funding wildfires and flooded homes," said a campaigner cited by Reuters.

Ljubljana – The four centre-left opposition parties have filed a motion to declare an environmental and climate emergency after a similar attempt made in February failed to make it past the committee stage.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on every country to declare a "climate emergency" on Dec. 12, as world leaders marking the fifth anniversary of the Paris climate accord made mostly incremental pledges relative to the scale of the crisis.   

New Zealand has declared a climate change emergency and committed to a carbon-neutral government by 2025, in what the prime minister Jacinda Ardern called "one of the greatest challenges of our time".
