Climate of Greece

The new emergency weather bulletin predicts a worsening of weather conditions starting this afternoon and lasting for almost 24 hours due to the Cassandra storm, which will pass north of Greece but not significantly affect the country, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS).

Good weather is expected to continue on Sunday, with mild temperatures and occasional local showers.

Light showers and showers in the west, central and northern parts will occur in the country today, according to ERT meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos.

Bad weather continues for another day in Greece as according to the EMY forecast, today Sunday (1/9) localized heavy showers and thunderstorms in Sporades, Evia, Peloponnese, and Crete.

The scene is changing for summer with thunderstorms and rain just before August leaves as well. Limited instability will prevail from today, with a few midday showers on the mainland and in the Ionian Sea.

August will bid us farewell with instability according to the weather forecasts. As both Thodoros Kolydas and Klearchos Marousakis say in their posts, cold air masses coming from Ukraine, where they will be over our region via the Black Sea, will bring rain and thunderstorms until the end of the week.

With temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius, the weekend, with the risk of wildfires increasing in several areas. Any showers that do occur will be isolated and limited to mountainous areas.

Rain is expected in most parts of Greece on Wednesday, according to the National Meteorological Service (EMY).

The Ionian Sea, western Greece, central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, eastern Thessaly, and northern Evia, will see rain and scattered thunderstorms, which will be particularly intense in central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace in the morning hours.

Intensifying winds, warmth and instability in the midday and afternoon hours on the mainland, especially in the mountains, will be the main features of the weather in the coming days.

Weather Conditions

The first vacation exodus is expected to occur with good weather as we approach the end of July. EMY’s forecast indicates a rise in temperatures again starting Sunday.
