Police seek clues in killing of top criminal lawyer

Police investigating the killing of prominent lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos in his Athens office on Thursday night are seeking to determine whether the crime had been premeditated, Kathimerini understands. 

Investigators have determined that two men entered the building on Asclepiou Street at around 7 p.m. had had an appointment with Zafeiropoulos.

Police on Friday stepped up an investigation into the murder of prominent lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos, who was gunned down in his central Athens office on Thursday night, apparently by perpetrators posing as clients.

According to authorities, the two men who entered the building on Asklipiou Street at around 7 p.m. had had an appointment with Zafeiropoulos.

A massive technical fault of energy utility CEZ left downtown Sofia in the dark from 4 to 10 pm yesterday, reported Standart News. 

The company's operators were bombarded with thousands of phone calls from citizens in the affected quarters of Orlandovtsi, Yavorov and Hadzhi Dimitar and were constantly delaying the provisional time of power supply restoration.

Australian government releases “guide” to dealing with terrorism

The Federal Government has released a “tool kit” for venue operators to assess the vulnerability of their site and better protect it against a potential terrorist attack.
It outlined a blueprint for “layered security” at venues, including CCTV, X-ray screening and physical barriers like bollards to prevent vehicle attacks at crowded places like shopping centres and sports stadiums.

Vandals who smashed metro ticket machines identified

Using CCTV images, the police managed to identify the three men who used a sledgehammer to smash the new ticket machines that have been installed at Omonia metro station in central Athens. The attack took place on May 2 and led to eight new machines, designed to accept electronic tickets that are not yet in use, being destroyed, along with two existing ticket machines and an ATM screen.
