Police question man over hand grenade at residential complex

Police are questioning a Coast Guard officer over a live hand grenade found outside the entrance to a residential complex in the southern suburb of Glyfada.

Kathimerini understands that a female coast guard officer, who lives in the complex, has testified to the police's Extortion Division, alleging the man's involvement in the incident.

2 speedboats carrying migrants stopped, suspected traffickers nabbed

The Greek Coast Guard says it stopped two speedboats carrying a total of 37 migrants off the island of Kos and arrested three alleged traffickers Thursday night.

Both boats ignored warnings to stop and tried to ram Coast Guard patrol vessels, authorities said. They were stopped with shots fired on their outboard motors.

Greek Kathimerini reports that the passengers have been evacuated and are already in lifeboats, and for now there is no information on whether anyone was injured.
The Coast Guard stated that there were 237 passengers and 51 crew members on board.
