High School Boycott Spreading in Macedonia

A growing number of high school pupils in Macedonia are boycotting regular classes and attending alternative lectures and events held inside schools for a third day - in a dispute that shows no sign of going away.

They say they will continue the boycott until the Education Minister, Abdilaqim Ademi, agrees to meet them for talks.

Macedonia Pupils Boycott Classes Over New Exams

The boycott began on Monday in a bid to stop plans for the externally-controlled exams that are intended to check high school pupils' skills and evaluate whether teachers have done their jobs properly.

The movement organising the boycott, High School Plenum, said it would continue the boycott for as long as the Education Ministry turns a deaf ear to its demands.
