Common Security and Defence Policy

The Bulgarian Air Force reports that the main tasks set in its Action Plan for the previous 2018, have been successfully accomplished and the troops are capable of performing missions and operations. These are some of the main conclusions made during the Air Force's annual analysis, which took place yesterday (21st January).

A meeting of political directors from the defense ministries of the EU member states took place on Thursday and Friday in Bucharest, in the context of Romania's exercise of the Presidency at the Council of the European Union, having on the agenda of discussions important topics related to the security and defense of the European Union.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg confirmed his attendance to the informal meeting of defence ministers of the EU member states, which is schedule to take place in Bucharest on 30 and 31 January, National Defence Gabriel Les told AGERPRES on Thursday.

The European Union's top military official says he's working with other EU army chiefs to come up with proposals aimed at enhancing the bloc's military capabilities.

Romania's Defence Minister Mihai Fifor attended an informal meeting of the EU defence ministers in Vienna on Wednesday and Thursday, voicing Romania's support for the ongoing processes in the Western Balkans designed for the development of the partners in this area and for placing them on a European track.

The international security context, the risks and threats emerging globally and regionally, as well as the measures to be taken at both NATO and EU levels, were discussed in Bucharest on Thursday by State Secretary for Defence, Policy, Planning and International Relations with Romania's Defence Ministry (MApN) Mircea Dusa and Portuguese Defence Minister Jose Alberto Azeredo Ferreira Lop

At the European Council meeting in Brussels on Friday, Romania's President Klaus Iohannis reaffirmed support for the implementation of the Digital Single Market objectives.

On 27 June 2018 EU ambassadors meeting in the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) confirmed an agreement reached on 19 June between the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council and European Parliament representatives on a regulation on medicated feed, i.e. feed containing medicines for the purpose of treating or controlling disease in farmed animals, aquaculture species and pets.

90% of the EU's external trade and 40% of its internal trade is transported by sea. Safe and secure seas and oceans are of fundamental importance for free trade, the EU economy and living standards. 

The Council today adopted conclusions on the revision of the EU maritime security strategy (EUMSS) action plan.
