Greek police on Jan. 3 arrested Christodoulos Xiros, a fugitive member of the Marxist guerrilla group November 17 who had absconded while on leave from prison almost a year ago.

Christodoulos Xeros, the convicted member of the November 17 terrorist group, was arrested near Athens on Saturday, a year after he disappeared while on furlough from Korydallos Prison.

Following last week’s gun attack against the Israeli Embassy in Athens, the Greek Police’s counter-terrorism unit is on alert for another assault, possibly against a human target, in the countdown to critical presidential elections, sources have told Kathimerini.

The police believe that the Popular Fighters Group which was most likely behind the armed attack on the Israeli embassy in Athens on Friday is made up of anti-establishment figures who have been involved in armed robberies and gun running or is formed by a network of anarchists brought together by Nikos Maziotios, a convicted terrorist currently serving a 50-year prison sentence.

The Greek government condemned on Dec. 12 as a "terrorist assault on democracy" a night-time gun attack on the Isreali embassy in Athens that saw the building sprayed with gunfire but no one hurt.
      

Iraklis Kostaris, a convicted member of the dismantled November 17 terrorist group, was on Friday transferred to the Thriasio Hospital in Elefsina, in a critical condition following three weeks on hunger strike.

Kostaris, 47, was moved from Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison to the hospital on the orders of a cardiologist at the prison.

The fate of Colombia's peace talks is in the hands of the FARC rebels, the president warned Nov. 17, after halting negotiations designed to end Latin America's longest-running conflict.        

Nikos Maziotis, the head of the Revolutionary Struggle terrorist group, says he will not appear before a prosecutor to give a deposition.

In a statement published online, Maziotis said that he would not answer questions regarding his alleged bombing of the Bank of Greece headquarters and arrest following a shootout earlier this year.
