Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras on Tuesday signed a contract for the purchase of 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) articulated buses.

The deal was inked with the head of Iveco Bus' Europe Commercial Operations, Giorgio Zino. 

The 18-meter buses will be added to the Athens public transport fleet. 

The long-suffering tender for the supply of new buses to renew the aging fleet of the transport companies of Athens and Thessaloniki (OASA and OASTH) is moving forward.

The Elin gas station chain and Blue Grid on Wednesday announced that, as part of their collaboration, they are creating the first liquefied and compressed natural gas (LNG-CNG) station in Attica, at Thriassio, west of the capital, which is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2024.

The recent change in the shareholder composition of Blue Grid, led ELINOIL and Blue Grid to the joint agreement for the transfer of ELINOIL's share in BlueFuel to Blue Grid, which will now own 100% of the company's shares.

Turkey's leading bus manufacturer Otokar on Aug. 9 announced it has recently received an order of 50 compressed natural gas (CNG) city buses from Azerbaijan's leading public transportation company Xaliq Faiqoglu.

The Greek government is considering incentives to promote the use of electric cars and natural gas in transport, along with expanding the use of biofuel, as part of its actions to reduce emissions, Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said on Monday.
