The no-confidence motion tabled against the government by several opposition parties failed Thursday night, with 141 MPs voting for and 159 against.

The 158 MPs of the ruling New Democracy party were joined by an independent MP, who has bolted from the far-right Spartiates (Spartans), to reject the motion.

37 MPs voted for the proposal of 61 MPs of the opposition for a vote of no confidence in the Minister of Interior Bratislav Gai, against 148 MPs, and seven MPs abstained, out of a total 192.

With reinforced security and gendarmerie with heavy equipment in the National Assembly, the debates on the requested vote of no confidence in the government of Kiril Petkov began.

The perimeter of the fences has been extended to St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Ljubljana – The council of the Left on Friday endorsed the party’s executive committee, headed by coordinator Luka Mesec, after the committee put their mandate for a vote of confidence. The party leadership has been given the mandate for talks with the Freedom Movement to enter a coalition headed by Robert Golob.

The no-confidence motion was proposed to parliament on November 30 by all 40 opposition MPs, but the opposition withdrew it before the vote, due in parliament on Monday.

Ljubljana – Simona Kustec remains the minister of education, science and sport after 42 MPs voted in favour of a motion of no confidence, four short of the required majority, and 39 coalition MPs voted against.

The centre-left opposition contributed the ouster votes, whereas MPs of the National Party (SNS) and all but one deputies of the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) group abstained.

After an opposition attempt to oust the government of Zoran Zaev failed on Thursday in North Macedonia's parliament, the main ruling Social Democrats, in another twist, said they now expect their wafer-thin majority to be boosted by more MPs.

Ljubljana – Centre-left opposition groups have called on the government to either resign or seek a confidence vote, describing its decision to backtrack on two major bills as yet another proof that it no longer has a majority.

National leader of the opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu said that on Tuesday, all the Social Democrat MP will attend a debate and vote on the motion of no-confidence, and for the motion to succeed it would take 20 of votes of the power MPs. "PSD will be present in full tomorrow [Tuesday] for the motion of no-confidence.
