A large global survey issued on Friday showed a surge in despair and disillusionment with established politics, particularly among young American men, the only US population group to turn more conservative over the past decade.

"A leap forward is feasible and will benefit all of us. It is up to us, but requires determination and cooperation," said the chairman of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), Dimitris Papalexopoulos, on Monday, in a statement before the presentation of the federation's survey on the entrepreneurship environment.

Most Greek businesses are extremely short-lived, as 56% of them "die" before completing a decade of life. This proves business ventures in Greece are often done casually, without a plan or sufficient funds, motivated by need and not because the would-be entrepreneurs have identified a real opportunity.

In political developments, we often focus on internal party ramifications or even personal quarrels, ignoring the big picture.

There was surrealism and a dose of hypocrisy in the debate that preceded the approval of an amendment for the legalization of a number of irregular immigrants who live and work in Greece and who will be granted a permit to work in sectors that are experiencing a lack of hands.

The program foresees 600 million dinars in non-repayable funds.

With a motley concoction of small parties on the far-right of ruling conservatives New Democracy, the government is seeking to assess the reasons that led some 700,000 people to vote the way they did in the recent elections and the political response to lure them back to the center ground. 

Thursday's resolution was passed with the support of MPs of the governing Law and Justice Party (PiS) and the far-right Confederation alliance. During the vote, PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski announced that the country would hold a referendum on the issue of relocating asylum seekers, which according to local media could take place on the same day as the autumn general election.
