German ambassador frightened by attack on Hürriyet columnist

German Ambassador to Ankara Martin Erdmann said he was frightened with the assault on Hürriyet journalist Ahmet Hakan.

In a written statement on Nov. 2, the ambassador said he had confidence in the Turkish judiciary that the incident would be enlightened and perpetrators would be punished accordingly. 

The ambassador extended a get well message for Hakan.

Russia informed Turkey about airstrike in Syria

Russia has informed Turkey about the airstrike launched in Syria on Sept. 30, a Russian Embassy official has stated.

"Today we informed the Turkish authorities about the military operation," Russian Embassy spokesperson Igor Mityakov told the Hürriyet Daily News, adding that notification was made through the embassy in Ankara.

Police seize Germany-bound counterfeit money in Istanbul

Turkish police seized thousands of counterfeit money in an Istanbul-based operation before they were delivered to Germany.

Istanbul financial crimes police units stopped a foreign license-plated BMW upon a notice that large amounts of counterfeit money issued in Turkey would be transferred abroad.

End of Daylight Saving Time delayed in Turkey

Daylight Saving Time in Turkey will end on Nov. 8, instead of Oct. 25, because of the upcoming snap election on Nov. 1.

Clocks across the country will be switched back by one hour at 4 a.m., which will then become 3 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8.

The clocks across Turkey were last put forward to Daylight Saving Time for an hour on March 29 to save electricity.

New ferries pose threat to historic fabric and authenticity of Istanbul

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has silently commissioned three new ferries, but they have been criticized, mostly because they clash with the city's historic texture. The issue is also about a better democracy for Turkey. Three new ferries, named Göksu, Küçüksu and Durusu, silently went into use in the early days of the summer in Istanbul.
