Piri Reis’ world map on display at Topkapı Palace
A world map drawn by the famous Ottoman admiral, cartographer and sailor Piri Reis in 1513 has been put on display once again at Istanbul's Topkapı Palace after a long break. The map on display is among the most important and interesting artifacts that have survived from the age of discoveries. The visitors' interest in the exhibition is reported to be quite intense.

Fog blankets Istanbul, disrupts vessel traffic
Heavy fog led to a disruption of vessel traffic late on Nov. 6 in Turkey's Bosporus Strait.
The fog started to take effect on Nov. 5 evening, causing delays in air and sea traffic.
İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport has been closed to air traffic.

Istanbul welcomes nearly 6 million tourists in nine months
Some 5.8 million foreign tourists have visited Istanbul in the first nine months of the year, while in September alone the number of visitors leaped more than 100 percent on an annual basis.
Academic completes dangerous open-water swim route
An academic of a Turkish university has swum for 15 hours in the 34-kilometer Catalina Channel, which stretches between Santa Catalina Island and Los Angeles in the United States.
Raha Akhavan Tabatabaei, an academic from Sabancı University, successfully reached her goal by swimming the track, known as the world's one of the most dangerous open-water swim routes.

House sales to foreigners surge by over 25 pct in Sept
Property sales to foreigners in Turkey rose by 25.8 percent annually in September, the country's statistical authority announced on Oct. 13.
Foreigners bought 6,630 properties during the month, according to a statement by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
Among all house sales, 4.5 percent were made to foreigners.
