Vice president hints at tax reform
The government will broaden the tax base and increase the share of direct taxes, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has said.
"There have been criticisms such as 'too high a tax burden,'" Yılmaz said on Dec. 12 during his speech in the parliamentary talks on the government's 2024 budget.

Gov't signals comprehensive tax reform
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has said there are strong demands from the labor and employer sectors on taxation and that he supports these demands, pointing to radical changes.
"This is an issue we should work on," Yılmaz said after meeting with representatives of the business world as part of preparations for the Medium-Term Program (MTP) to be announced next month.

Winemakers to get back consumption tax paid for this year
Wine producers will finally get back the tax the previous government had imposed on them until December 2018, but which is still being collected this year.

Greek tax increases top OECD chart
Greece is the last decade's tax hike champion among the 35 member-states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, according to a new OECD report.
The report, which reflects the huge burden imposed on Greek taxpayers, shows that Greece remains the global leader not only in the sum of taxes but also in categories such as consumption taxation and property levies.
