Court intervenes to remove minors from ‘Amish’ family living in tunnel

The underage children in a family that describes itself as an "early Christian community, similar to America's Amish" and lives in a makeshift dwelling without rudimentary facilities in the northeast Peloponnese, have been taken into state care following the intervention of a prosecutor. 

New year brings highway toll hike

Higher toll fees at toll stations, in both major and auxiliary roads, increased on Greek roads as of Monday, following earlier announcements by concessionaires. 

On Olympia Odos, the new fees implemented for vehicles affect the following highways: Patra-Athens, Antirrio-Ioannina, Corinth-Tripoli-Kalamata and the Lefktro-Sparta section, as well as the Rio-Antirrio bridge. 

Man arrested for threatening doctors in Corinth hospital

A hospital in the town of Corinth in southern Greece was placed on alert on Monday after a man, 25, threatened doctors with a can of petrol and a smoke bomb.

The suspect, who had earlier been examined by doctors at the facility, stormed into the emergency room of the Corinth General Hospital building, telling the doctors present he would set fire to them and burn them.

Athens-Corinth motorway reopens after fuel removed from burned truck

Road traffic on the Athens-Corinth motorway towards the Greek capital was restored after seven hours on Thursday night after a fire on a truck carrying liquified gas in Kakia Skala in early afternoon prompted authorities to close the road amid fears of an explosion.

The lane towards Corinth will stay closed until the truck is removed.
