German corvette crosses Corinth Canal

A Braunschweig class corvette F260 is towed through the Corinth Canal, which separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece, Monday. A colorful and joyful gaggle of 31 kids head down a narrow footpath to an excavation site at Ancient Corinth. They are all carrying backpacks and wearing identical green hats to protect them from the hot sun. 

Hyped about becoming archaeologists for a day, they were excited about digging, sifting and making exciting discoveries.

Athens-Corinth highway reopens; Proastiakos running as usual

Police reopened the Athens-Corinth national highway on Tuesday morning, which had been closed to traffic due to a fire that broke out on Monday in nearby woodland that blanketed the area in thick smoke and ash.

Authorities also said that service has resumed as normal on the Proastiakos suburban railway and on KTEL Intercity buses running between the Peloponnese and the mainland.

Heavy rainfall causes problems in Attica

Heavy rainfall on Sunday evening caused serious problems in Attica, prompting Traffic Police to close off flooded roads and leading to several calls to the fire service to pump out flooded homes and basements.

Among the roads closed by the authorities were a section of Pireos Street as well as a stretch of the Athens-Corinth national highway.

Corinth Canal shut after landslide

Authorities on Monday closed Greece's iconic Corinth Canal, used mainly by commercial ships and pleasure craft, after a landslide caused by heavy rain in the area. Repairs are expected to take up to two weeks, significantly lengthening the journey of vessels which had been planning to use the shortcut.
