Actress Luminita Gheorghiu, known for a rich filmography that includes the films "Morometii" (The Moromete Family), "Moartea domnului Lazarescu " (The Death of Mr. Lazarescu), "4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile," (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) has died at the age of 71. The film "La Gomera," directed by Corneliu Porumboiu, Romania's submission for the US Academy award for best international feature film 2020, will have its North-American debut at the "Masters" section of the 44th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, which will take place September 5-15.

Romanian Films Selected for Cannes Festival

The first film selected, 'Comoara' ('The Treasure') is directed by director Corneliu Porumboiu, who in 2006 won Cannes' Golden Camera prize for best first film with his '12:08 East of Bucharest' feature.

The movie stars both professional and amateur actors, focusing on two men who have surprising adventures as they attempt to find treasure.
