Ljubljana – The more virulent variants of coronavirus appear not to be very widespread in Slovenia yet. Two labs which conduct genetic sequencing have so far identified 35 cases of the UK variant and not a single case of the South African or Brazilian variant.

As many as 3,337 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the past 24 hours, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Wednesday. These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the GCS states. As of Wednesday, 788,048 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus had been confirmed in Romania. Of these, 731,049 were declared cured.

The SARS-CoV-2 variant, lineage B.1.1.7 is already spreading in half of the country's counties and there is a high probability of covering the entire territory of Romania in the near future, the National Institute of Public Health indicated on Tuesday, in the epidemiological analysis of the first 136 cases of COVID-19 in Romania confirmed with new variants of the virus.

A large number of Bulgarians seem to have already been exposed to COVID-19 and recovered. That's according to opinion polls by Gallup International Balkan.

The data are from an independent face-to-face survey, part of the agency's regular program. The survey was conducted 4-12 February among 1,011 adult Bulgarians across the country.

The largest number of infected are in the United States - more than 18 million people, followed by India with almost 11 million infected, and Brazil with 9.9 million.
Russia is on the fourth place in the world and the first in Europe with more than four million cases of COVID-19.

The British version of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes the disease COVID-19) was found in 70 percent of the samples in Bulgaria, which were suspected to contain it, said the Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
