Piraeus Port second in Med for containers
The container terminal at Piraeus has climbed to second place among the Mediterranean's highest-ranking commercial ports at the end of 2018, just behind leader Valencia in Spain, which the Greek port is expected to overtake next year - as it did this year with Algeciras - according to the Lloyd's List Top 100 Global Ports.

EU countries back investment screening plan with China in mind
European Union countries agreed on Wednesday to a far-reaching system to coordinate scrutiny of foreign investments into Europe, notably from China.
Under the plan, developed in the wake of a surge in Chinese investments, the European Commission would investigate foreign investments in strategic technologies and infrastructure such as ports or energy networks.

Court finds strike at PCT illegal
Employees at Piers II and II of Piraeus' Container Terminal (PCT) returned to work on Friday afternoon, as the 24-hour strike called by the Piraeus Labor Center was found illegal by a local court earlier in the day.
The court ruling came after an injunction filed by DPORT, the company that manages staffing for PCT, a subsidiary of China's Cosco.

Committee to decide on OLP's shipyard license on Friday
An Economy Ministry committee will decide on Friday whether to allow Piraeus Port Authority (OLP), majority-owned by China's Cosco, to create a new shipbuilding facility in Perama's ship repair zone.
Cosco had submitted a request for a license to repair mega-yachts to the regional authority, which rejected it, citing a 1984 law that forbids heavy industry facilities in Attica.

Blockade of Piraeus cargo terminal lifted
A blockade of the cargo terminal run by China's Cosco at Piraeus by disgruntled port workers was lifted on Saturday after the strike was declared illegal by a Piraeus court following an appeal by the companies who supply the work force to Piraeus Container Terminal.
