Piraeus port blockade draws China complaint

With the blockade of the cargo terminal run by China's Cosco at Piraeus by disgruntled port workers causing serious disruptions in the transfer of cargo shipments and drawing the ire of port officials, the Chinese Embassy in Athens filed a complaint on Friday with the Greek government, urging it to protect China's significant investments in Greece. 

Court ruling paves way for liquidation of Skaramangas shipyards

An Athens court has approved an appeal by the Greek state and Piraeus Bank to prepare the Skaramangas shipyards for liquidation.

As long as there are no objections from the key shareholder Privinvest, which is far from certain, the government will be able to start auctioning the shipyard's assets via an international competition.

Piraeus port enters new era with increasing handling capacity

Piraeus port, the largest harbor in Greece, entered a new era of handling 20,000 plus twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) vessels on Monday when China's Cosco Shipping Taurus giga container vessel, one of the biggest worldwide, docked there.

The 400 m Taurus is the largest vessel to berth at Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), opening a new chapter in the history of the port.

Major overhaul plan for Piraeus port

Cosco-managed Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) on Monday announced major overhaul plans for the country's main port, including the construction of four hotels in the area, a new cruise terminal and shopping centers totaling 40,000 square meters that would be open to the wider public as well as cruise passengers.
