Cost of electricity by source

The price of wholesale electricity will drop to 58.44 euros per megawatt-hour on Thursday at the Hellenic Energy Exchange, it was reported on Wednesday.

This rate is 33% lower than Wednesday's set rate, a continuous reduction since wholesale electricity prices dropped 75% last Saturday, that is from €233.81/MWh to €58.55/MWh.

Wholesale electricity prices have fallen below 100 euros per megawatt-hour in Greece for the first time in nearly 18 months.

The electricity rate for Wednesday has been set at €86.77/MWh in the Greek Energy Exchange, falling below the €100 barrier for the first time since August 2021.

The billowing winds that swept Greece over the last three days were enough to produce up to 83% of the electricity consumed by households and businesses and to knock down the average wholesale electricity price by 44%.

For the first five months of 2018, production and consumption of electricity in Bulgaria decreased, while exports of electricity increased compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the Electricity System Operator.

By end-September 2015, Bulgarian producers of electricity exported 8.42 million MWh, according to operational data of the Electricity System Operator (ESO).

Bulgaria's electricity export went up by 31.7% on an annual basis during that period.
