Greek PM lashes out at predecessors, says he ‘succeeded where they failed’
Alexis Tsipras "would have been a very happy prime minister" if he'd been elected to govern Greece a decade earlier, instead of finding "empty coffers" in 2015, he told Open TV on Thursday, lashing out at his predecessors in the wake of comments by former conservative premier Costas Karamanlis the previous day.

Valuable voters
It used to be possible to predict the outcome of an election with some certainty. The key lay in guessing which way the middle-ground voters would swing; those who had voted for PASOK's Costas Simitis and then New Democracy's Costas Karamanlis, those who had voted for Karamanlis and then George Papandreou, and thought of themselves as "homeless" centrists.

Ex-PM Simitis: A new 'Imia crisis' with Turkey not out of the question
The danger of a "hot incident" with Turkey is ever-present, former Prime Minister Costas Simitis warns in an article in Greek Kathimerini.
Referring to the "Imia crisis" which brought Greece and Turkey to the brink of war a few days after he became Prime Minister in January 1996, Simitis says that "it is not excluded that the present Turkish leadership has similar designs."

Politicians appointed to supervise elections in list mix-up
Former conservative prime minister Costas Karamanlis, Labour Minister Effie Achtsioglou and former socialist deputy premier Evangelos Venizelos were among the politicians who were accidentally appointed by a section of the Supreme Court as court representatives in the upcoming local, regional and European elections, due to a mix-up in the lists provided by the country's Bar Associations.
Ravaging education
The intense reactions from the academic community to plans by Education Minister Costas Gavroglou to merge universities with technical colleges (TEIs) would have been enough to demonstrate that the minister has hardly discussed - let alone weighed the scientific merits of - the thousand-page relevant legislation recently tabled in Parliament.
